Motorsport has its fair share of drivers with weird and wonderful names.

Think Australia's own IndyCar champ Will Power or America's Scott Speed of Formula 1 fame, or maybe even the son of the last crown prince of Austria-Hungary, Ferdinand Zvonimir Maria Balthus Keith Michael Otto Antal Bahnam Leonhard von Habsburg-Lothringe who races in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Then there's Sting Ray Robb, an IndyCar up-and-comer whose name alone will no doubt attract a throng of fans.

Robb's rise to the top of American single-seater racing is a little unconventional.

Born in Idaho's capital Boise, he began karting at five years old while home-schooled.

He later attended high school in the remote town of Payette – home to a little over 8000 people
